The first months of Trump administration have seen a dramatic rise in the detention and deportation of immigrants across the country. Here in New Jersey, deportations are up 30%, and things will only get worse if Congress approves a 2018 budget that sets aside $4.5 billion to detain and deport even more immigrants, hire thousands of additional immigration officers, make tens of thousands of new beds in private detention facilities, and build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
Here in New Jersey's 11th district, Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11) has a key role in determining the budget as Chair of the Appropriations committee.
That's why we are going to draw a line in the sand this August recess and demand #Not1Dollar for the Frelinghuysen Deportation Budget. Please join Wind of the Spirit, NJ-11th for Change and many others from August 14-18 in NJ-11 for a non-stop week of action. We will be kicking off the week with a march and rally on Monday August 14th at 11am, followed by overnight vigils and a week of actions with partner organizations. We will be joined by 100 immigrant youth from across the country who are committing to this fight, and by Wind of the Spirit, NJ 11 for Change, SEIU 32BJ and other partner organizations - please let us know if your organization wants to endorse by emailing [email protected]
